Keeping a Dream Alive [feat. Tea and Honey Co.]
I have personally been a part of the brand rep/small shop community for almost 2 years. I have been on both ends of things since I both operate small shops and my daughters are brand reps for various small shops. I have met so many Mamas all over the world and had the absolute privilege of getting to know them each, finding people that are driven, determined and hard working. These incredible women juggle businesses, family and life and overcome all obstacles to reach their goals. It’s refreshing to have so much in common with so many people in one community. They are people that I am honored to call my friend, even if we never meet in person. They are people that will always have each other’s back. One of these people is Laquisha Brock, a name you might have heard within the community and if you haven’t heard of her, you’ve probably seen pictures of her beautiful girls throughout the small shop community.
Even before I first spoke to Laquisha, I had seen her name just about everywhere. When you are so well respected in the Brand Rep community, it’s hard not to have the spotlight on you now and then. I knew that Laquisha had been helping shops with social media and that she was great at it, so much so, that when I was looking for help, at least 3 people recommended her to me. There were shops constantly raving about her and her girls on Instagram and Facebook. I got to know her when she became a part of @stylinkidspremier last year and instantly saw what everyone else saw in her. When I found out that she was going to be a small shop owner, it didn’t come as a surprise to me and I knew that she was going to be phenomenal at it! Only a month in and she’s proven that she’s a rockstar. Here’s the story of her dream come true.
Laquisha had been in charge of Hazzard Lane Clothing’s social media for over a year so her heart & soul was poured into the company. She was also a brand rep for her friend’s shop, Elegantly Evelynn. The owner, Destiny, (who also runs the rep account @destiny_evelynn) had always loved Hazzard Lane Clothing as well. Since Laquisha loved the quality of Destiny’s handmade clothing, she hooked her up with Kate from Hazzard Lane Clothing, so she could provide wholesale leotards & other handmade items that Kate might’ve needed. The friendship between the three of them began and they started speaking daily.
When Kate first called Laquisha to tell her that she was closing her shop, they cried together. The small shop community is so much more than it seems. Feelings get involved. We begin to love the people we are working with and we want them to succeed. Kate explained that it wasn’t an easy choice, but something she needed to do for her & her family, so she could start her next journey.
It was a no brainer. Both Laquisha and Destiny wanted to take over. Destiny would sew and Laquisha would continue to manage the social media. They just couldn’t see Kate selling the business in bits & pieces. The company meant too much to them. Kate’s dream meant too much to them. They all agreed that a name change was needed. Laquisha started thinking of her favorite quotes and thinking of what this new adventure meant to her.
“Would you like an adventure now, or shall we have our tea first?” -Peter Pan
“I don’t feel very much like pooh today,”said Pooh. “There, there”, said Piglet. “I’ll bring you tea & honey until you do.”
Not only was Pooh Bear a favorite of Laquisha’s growing up, but Destiny has been that friend to her, always pushing her and giving her faith when she thinks or says she can’t do something. Just one of the things Laquisha loves about Destiny. As Laquisha puts it, “She’s the honey to my tea”.
Laquisha made the announcement on Facebook that she and Destiny would be taking over Hazzard Lane Clothing on February 18, 2017 and that they would be rebranding and renaming the shop Tea + Honey Co.
If you were a fan of Hazzard Lane Clothing, you’ll be pleased to know that aside from the name, Laquisha and Destiny plan to keep things the same. They want nothing more than to keep the brand alive. They will be adding more handmade items and new designs and Laquisha and her husband are in the process of transitioning into printing all of their own products. Their dream is to keep Kate’s dream going strong and for everyone to remember how it started, while working hard to keep it going.
I hope you will take the time to check out Tea + Honey Co. and make sure to follow them on Instagram and join their Facebook VIP group for sales, giveaways and insider info. I know that you’ll find it to be your new favorite shop.
