The Day I Gained Over 500 Followers

While follower count doesn’t REALLY matter, we all know that as brand reps, we do want to provide our shops with the greatest amount of exposure that we possibly can, so growing our account does matter.  Our rep account has been stuck at 16.1K FOREVER!  It seemed I was losing followers as I was gaining them.  I was joining giveaway loops, joining Telegram groups, interacting more and more and still…. nothing.  I was in a rut until I discovered something absolutely amazing this week.  Something I felt I had to share with you!

You’ve seen them. I know you have.  Those follow loops. They are EVERYWHERE!!  I remember looking at them and thinking how incredibly silly they were.  I swore I would never do them.  I was sure it was a handful of people that did them and it would be a big waste of time.  And then I saw one of my fave accounts post one.  She is the blogger I want to be and has the activity I aspire to have.  At that moment I thought, shoot…. if she’s doing these follow loops, they must work, right?!

So I gave in.  I followed the instructions and went to the hashtag, followed everyone that posted and commented on each.  When I was done, I reposted the image and instructions and y’all…. I gained over 200 followers in just a few hours.  Wait… what?!  I  couldn’t believe it.  I was quickly searching for more of these loops and I was literally ready to fill my feed with them until I reached my 20k goal. What I realized was that the later you join, the harder it is to get involved since Instagram blocks you for commenting too many times or for following too many, too fast…. so…. I did what any other insane person would do.  I started my own follow loop.

I created an image, I found a hashtag that hadn’t been used yet and I posted.  I totally expected crickets but surprisingly, within a few hours, there were over 350 participants!  It was so successful that I created my 2nd follow loop only 24 hours later.  And just days after my first follow loop, I’m up 800 followers and well on my way to our goal.   I want to invite you to join in! I will be posting these follow loops every day or two, and they are all open to all reps, small shops and bloggers.  You can join in anytime and the best part is, it’s absolutely FREE!

While I am following some accounts that I may not have followed in other circumstances, for the most part, I’m finding new reps and shops that I may not have found otherwise.  I’m gaining followers, they are gaining followers and we are spreading the love!  Join us!  Check out #followunicornloop2 on our page @thesmallfashionista for my most recent loop.

I felt he same way – and still kinda do. I was #13 in this loop and have had maybe 15 followers so apparently people are not following directions or I’m doing something wrong….idk. But I posted it last night and feel it should’ve been much better. I’ve even been going to the # following more but nope – not happening.

I considered doing one of these follow loops but am leery because even though I want followers, I do not want to follow back numerous accounts that are not in my niche. This will then clutter my feed with posts that I am not interested in. I was once told by a media expert that you should only be following 10% of the amount of people following you. When you follow too many people it makes your account look unauthentic. For example I have a little over twelve thousand followers and therefore should only be following a maximum of 1,200 people. I have tried to follow this rule. That is the only thing that keeps me from joining the loops because I do not want to follow all of those people back. I would rather if I could pick and choose only the rep and Shop accounts to follow.

I’m only following 11% of those following me, so that’s not really an issue here. I think that this community is all about supporting one another so if helping out another rep, shop or blogger by giving them an extra follow will do that, then I’m doing my part!
